  • In 1883 was spud the first oil well in Romania at Solont, Bacau County - 11 Solont at 293 meters.
  • In 1890 was spud the first well at Runcu-Telega, Prahova County – 11 Georgescu EL Runcu at 565 meters.
  • In 1895 was spud the first well at Berca, Buzau County – 1 Simp Berca Sud at 244 meters.
  • In 1896 was spud the first well at Campina, Prahova County – 2 SR Campina Draganeasa at 327 meters.
  • In 1898 was spud the first well at : 
    • Bustenari, Prahova County – 10 Cerchez Runcu Bustenari at 224 meters
    • Tintea-Baicoi, Prahova County  – 22 COL Tintea at 450 meters

  • In 1976 was spud the fist well on the Black Sea - 1 Ovidiu Est drilled in 1976 at 5006 meters.
  • From 1883 until 2021 a number of 55.600 oil & gas wells were spud with a total of 70.271.000 meters drilled. 5735 wells are in still in production

The average of an well spud in Romania was around 400 meters until 1920. With the help of oil industry development  and a bigger interest for the oil a lot of wells were spud in order to reach new and deeper layers so this value incresed in the '20s up to 1500 meters. After a slow decline from the '80s starting with 2004 there is an increasing trend due to the new technologies, oil price gradually rise and the need for more oil.
  • The year with the most activity regarding drilling was 1984 – 1760 wells spud with a total of 2.179.875 meters drilled.
  • The deepest well drilled in Romania is 7000 MP Tintea Baicoi Floresti Calinesti spud in 1980 at 7025 meters. 17 wells are drilled deeper then 6000 meters. 106 wells are drilled deeper then 5000 meters.
  • The deepest well in production today is 5565 Bulbuceni spud in 1982 at 5421 meters. The production comes in natural flow from Sarmatian
  • There are 456 wells with depths between 11 and 100 meters.None of these are still in production.
  • The biggest number of wells drilled on a commercial field is on Gura Ocnitei-Moreni-Piscuri-Filipesti – 3686 oil and gas wells spud from 1902 until now.
  • The deepest well drilled on Gura Ocnitei-Moreni-Piscuri-Filipesti commercial field is 5501 MP Piscuri Nord spud in 1975 at 5353 meters.
  • Dambovita is the county with the biggest number of wells drilled – 8682.
  • On UAT Moreni was spud the biggest number of wells - 2908.
  • The first offshore well was 1 Ovidiu Est drilled in 1976 at 5006 meters.
  • Well 114 Nord Comandau spud in Zabala, Covasna county in 1983 at 3483 meters has the highest elevation for a well in Romania - 1328 meters.
